Recurrent fungal infections and bacterial vaginosis – characteristics of the causes, prophylactic and therapeutic possibilities

Streszczenie: Nawracające zapalenie pochwy o etiologii bakteryjnej lub grzybiczej jest jedną z najczęstszych przyczyn wizyt u lekarza ginekologa. Wdrożone leczenie eliminuje stan zapalny przeważnie na pewien czas, po którym infekcja powraca. Nawracające infekcje są często związane z zaburzeniami ekosystemu pochwy, wynikającymi z redukcji liczebności pałeczek kwasu mlekowego z rodzaju Lactobacillus. Przywrócenie równowagi mikrobiologicznej wydaje się być niezbędnym elementem profilaktyki i leczenia nawrotowych zapaleń pochwy. Z tego względu rosnącym uznaniem cieszą się probiotyki ginekologiczne, uzupełniające pulę niezbędnych bakterii w pochwie. W pracy przedstawiono również znaczenie preparatów z kwasem hialuronowym w profilaktyce i leczeniu nawracających infekcji kobiecych dróg rodnych.

Abstract: Recurrent vaginal inflammation, both bacterial and fungal etiology, are one of the most common gynecologist visit causes. Implemented treatment eliminates the vaginal inflammation for a certain period of time, before the problem returns. Often vaginal ecosystem disturbance, resulting from the number of Lactobacillus spp. reduction, is the cause of recurrent infection. Restore the vaginal microbial balance seems to be an essential part of prevention and treatment of recurrent vaginitis. This is the reason for the growing recognition of gynecological probiotics, that supplement amount of bacteria in the vagina. The importance of hyaluronic acid in the prevention and treatment of recurrent vaginal infection was also discussed in the article.
